The Young Adult Portuguese Society (YAPS) held its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, 2 March 2021 on a Zoom conference call.

A review of the 2020 events and 2021 plans was conducted with the common theme of uplifting the community. This left the newly elected YAPS executive committee confident that they could face any challenges that lay ahead.

YAPS is based in Johannesburg, South Africa. YAPS caters to the cultural, educational and social development and strengthening of the Portuguese culture among the South African community. Our roots are in Portugal, but our branches stretch throughout South Africa.

Our work and events focus on three main pillars:

• Educational
  • We organise Portuguese lessons on Zoom conference calls, every Monday from 7-9pm for R130 – Please contact us if you are interested.
  • We organise an annual Youth Leadership Summit for high school and university students called JuÍzo na Cabeça focussed on career and soft skills development.
  • We share educational material to our community.

  • Various fundraiser events for charities.

  • Viewings for Portugal’s national soccer team matches

YAPS is interested in broadening its scope by bringing Portuguese youth together in other cities around South Africa and would like to start partnerships in Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria.
